This is the December 7 assignment from the Holidays in Hand class I took from Jessica Sprague.
Christmas - that magic blanket that wraps itself about us, that something so intangible that it is like a fragrance. Christmas may be a day of feasting or of prayer, but always it will be a day of remembrance - a day in which we think of everything we have ever loved. ~ Augusta E. Rundel
Write: Describe some of your favorite holiday foods.
You want me to talk about food? Seriously? That's my other blog. Okay, kidding! But my favorite holiday foods - hmmm. I remember when I was a kid my mom used to make egg custard for the holidays, and she made a sour cream-cream cheese pie that I loved. She doesn't do either now - but then, our holiday celebration as a family has changed significantly, too. So, that's okay. I also love my husband's sugar cookies (yummo!) and last year, I learned to make this incredible Caramel Cake with Brown Butter - Sea Salt - Caramel Icing. Seriously, I made it about once a week from Thanksgiving through the first of the year. It is so delicious!! I admit to being a big sweets eater at the holidays, which is why I'm glad I'm no longer in the corporate world where I would be tempted by goodies coming into the office.
My photograph for today, I'm using this one from last year - I love it and it's of one of the foods that reminds me of the holidays. This is a plate of my husband's sugar cookies (well, I made them). Mmmm, mmm good! They're super crispy and melt in your mouth. Delicious and festive!

My "do" today is to finish the holiday letter. I need to find a photo of Harrison and update a few things in the letter (by the way, it's NOT a "my family is better than your family" letter - or a bragging letter, either! I promise!).
I'd wanted to make paper bag albums with the girls today, but that isn't going to happen. There are too many other things that need to be dealt with. I'm going to reschedule it, though, because I'd really like to do this craft with them and I think they'd get a huge kick out of having their own album. Plus, Elizabeth is wanting to start scrapbooking...perfect little thing to get her started!
Remember: What foods are present in many of your childhood memories? Why do you think holiday foods are so important to our celebrations? There are the previously mentioned egg custards and pie - plus a cherry-pecan candy that she made and I think she used canned cherry frosting for it. I can't remember. I wonder if she does. It was really good and I *hate* cherries! Those are the things I remember most from childhood - things that were always in the fridge, the things I stalked until I was told I could have some!
