The Christmas Questions

My blog is feeling peer pressure.  :)  So, we interrupt this Holidays in Hand marathon to present the Christmas Meme...

ABOUT THE TREE......
1. When do you put up the Christmas tree? The weekend following Thanksgiving. We shoot for Friday, but sometimes it's Saturday or Sunday before we get it up.

2. Real or fake?  Artificial.  I'm allergic to real trees.  Plus, real trees don't come pre-lit and I think Brad's really loving that!

3. Lights? What color? White.

4. Garland? No

5. Theme or no theme? No theme

6. What kind of topper? Painted, pressed tin star

7. What's your favorite ornament? One I bought Brad the year I was pregnant with Elizabeth of a daddy polar bear asleep with his baby on him.

8. What does your tree skirt look like? One side is a green print and the other is the coordinating red and cream background prints.  It's a print that I wouldn't choose now save my life, but it's one I made Brad when we were dating.

9. Where do you put your tree?    Against the wall in the family room.

10. Who decorates the tree? The kids help me.  Well, this year Harrison was UNdecorating it as quickly as we decorated it.  Brad puts ornaments on the top foot or so of the tree, because even on a step stool I can't reach it.  (it's a 9' tree)

11. What's "under" the tree? Only the tree skirt until right before Christmas (little kids, you know) and empty stockings

12. Do you put candy canes on your tree? No

ABOUT THE FOODS...

1. What's your favorite Christmas cookie? Brad's sugar cookies

2. Do you bake cookies and give them away? Yes...same cookies as above.

3. Any "special" foods or candy you only have at Christmas time? My mom's monkey bread is always part of breakfast on Christmas morning.

4. What do you eat Christmas Eve? Dinner.  :)  We don't have a special Christmas Eve dinner

5. What do you eat on Christmas Day? A huge breakfast at my parents' house - ham, bacon, sausage, eggs, waffles, monkey bread, breakfast casserole, breakfast pizza, fruit, juice, milk, coffee, egg nog

6. Do you like Eggnog?   A little bit.  This year is first year I've actually liked it.

7. Do you like candy canes?   Eh, they're okay.

ABOUT THE DECORATIONS...

1. Where do you hang the stockings? We lay them under the tree.  We USE our fireplace and it gets entirely too hot to have the stockings hanging on the mantle.

2. Do you put lights on your house? Yes.  Alternating transparent red and clear.  I think it's cute.  :)

3. Got any outside lawn decorations? Yes.

4. Do you put up a nativity (creche)? Outside the house, no.  Inside the house, several

5. Do you hang mistletoe over the door? No.

6. God a wreath on your front door? No, though I need to have Brad get out wreath down out of the attic and put it on the front door.

7. How long does it take you to decorate? A couple of weeks because we have so much other stuff going on that takes us out of the house

OTHER CHRISTMAS THINGS...

1. Favorite Christmas Book or story? Who's Coming to Our House - a children's board book that my mom bought Annie the Christmas she was born.   It's a story of the animals getting the stable ready for Mary and Joseph.

2. Do you stuff your stockings with any types of food for the kids? Candy and gum, you betcha!

3. Do you go to church on Christmas or Christmas Eve? Sometimes we go on Christmas Eve since we don't have other plans.

4. Have you ever gone caroling? Yes

5. Favorite Christmas Carol? Joy to the World

6. Do you believe in Santa? I know the truth.  :)  Yes, I believed in Santa as a little kid and yes, we do Santa with our kids -- though my 6 y/o has known the truth for a couple of years now and my 5 y/o knows as well.  I'm not going to lie to them when they ask me.

7. Do you leave Santa cookies? Our "Santa" prefers Dr. Pepper and cheese dip

8. What about Rudolph? Yes, we make "magic reindeer oats"  :)

9. What was your best Christmas gift? This ginormous clock that hangs on the wall in my dining area.  I wanted something BIG and ROUND to hang there -- and it's perfect!

10. What was the worst/most odd gift? I don't remember

11. Do you go to a "work" Christmas party? No.  My office doesn't have a Christmas party and neither does the State.

12. Do you hate going? n/a

13. Do you send Christmas cards? Yes

14. Do you make a list? Gift lists, card lists, shopping lists, lists of lists...yeah

15. Do you check it twice? Usually several times!

16. When do you start shopping? Here lately I haven't started shopping until Black Friday and haven't finished until the 22nd or 23rd.  I love the years that I start early and FINISH on Black Friday (like the years I was pregnant with Elizabeth and then with Annie...I *had* to be finished just in case I had a baby early!)

17. Do you shop on Black Friday? Yes.  Love. It!  It's my fun day out with my sister.  We start EARLY (as in 4:45 or so) and shop until we're done or out of money...whichever comes first.

18. Are you ready for Christmas?  No.  And won't be until after Annie's birthday, probably.

Now it is your turn!
