I thought the girls in their navy would look really cool in the red leather chair in Mom's bedroom (oh, I covet that chair...lipstick red leather...it is HOT!) But noooooo. No one cooperates here either (just like they didn't on her bed) What you see behind them is a throw Mom has across the back of the chair. On a WOOOOOOO PIG SOOOOIE note: Darren McFadden, sophomore running back for the University of Arkansas won the Doak Walker Award, which is given to the best running back in the country. Whoo-hooo! Heisman next year, baby!!!!
As I type this, I should be doing Christmas cards, there is a fire in the fireplace, and I'm listening to Kathy Mattea's Christmas album, Good News. I love this album. My favorite song on the album is "Christ Child's Lullabye" - not only is it perfect for Mattea's contra-alto voice (woo-hoo, another really low alto!), the melody beautiful - but I love the words as well. It's a setting of the traditional Scottish "Hebrides Lullaby" done with guitar, percussion and recorder - very Celtic (appropriately so) and the words are:
My sweet and lovely son are you
You are my love my darling new
Unworthy I, of you
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia
Your mild and gentle eyes proclaim
The loving heart with which You came
A tender, helpless tiny babe
With boundless gifts of grace
King of Kings, Most Holy One
God the Son, Eternal One
You are my God, and helpless son
High Ruler of Mankind.
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia
"You are my God, and helpless son" - rings of "Mary, Did You Know" (another song I like if done correctly, and Mattea's version is fabulous -- nowhere near the make-me-want-to-puke Kenny Rogers/Wynonna Judd version). Are these the kinds of things Mary treasured in her heart? And do you think when she kissed her baby she realized she was kissing the face of God? Wow.
