As I'm doing school with the girls, I'm also doing "preschool" with Harrison. This allows him to sit at the table with his sisters doing something that "feels" like school. Annie is doing it right now, too, until she starts preK in a couple of weeks.
A couple of years ago, someone on the iVillage Homeschool board recommended the Letter of the Week curriculum when another mom asked about preschool curriculum that was inexpensive or free. After looking it over - for something to entertain Annie while I did Elizabeth's kindergarten - I loved it. I decided to do the Preparatory Curriculum with her. I was excited. She was far from it. She didn't want to color the pictures, she didn't want to color the letters or numbers or shapes, she didn't want to glue. She was too immature for it (she was 2.5). We tried again last year and it went a little better - but not much.
Knowing how Annie did with it two years ago, I decided I'd try with Harrison this year and not expect too much as he's only 2.5. But, I need something for him to do while I'm teaching Elizabeth and Katherine. Well, he loves it. And actually, Annie is doing well with it, too. It's nice to have all four of them at the table working quietly (or not so...depending on the day). My only issue is keeping Harrison on the current week. "I not want A, I want Q!" or "I not want 'quare, I want the oval!!" I knew he knew Q but I had no idea he knew oval! I pulled the oval color page out of the notebook, "What is this?" His face brightened and he said, "Oval!!!! I want it!!" Okay, here ya go.
I spent hours scouring the web for color pages two years ago. I think there are more out there now (I looked again this year) and some of them are much better than what I had back then. I'll clue you in on what we're doing each week with links. He's making this the fun I'd imagined 2 years ago.

Message me on facebook about that curriculum! I think Conner would love it! I got him some pre-K books in the Target dollar bin to do once Zack goes back to school. My main problem with doing "school" with Conner is getting him to let me help him. He wants to do it all himself=) I think he would like coloring the shapes, numbers and letters.
Hi! Thanks for the comment. :) I doubt I am related to anybody you go to church with -- Olmstead is actually my husband's adopted dad's last name, and he was from Michigan. He passed away before I ever started dating my husband, and I have never met any of his family. (He had kids from a previous marriage but they don't keep in touch with my husband or mother-in-law. It's a long story!) I've lived in Mena my WHOLE life... born and raised! It's a great little town.
Your kids are adorable!
