Time to get off the steps and play in the deep water

I'm getting off the steps of the foodie blog pool - time to stop playing around and swim with the big kids. I've decided to join the Daring Bakers. I may be getting in over my head, but hey - it'll be fun and maybe (just maybe) edible, too. ;) I don't think I'm up for baking once a week like the Tuesdays with Dorie group does and the Daring Bakers only bake once a month. Though last month they made laminated dough talk about jumping into the deep end! Eeeeeeek! But, mmmmm, to have homemade cream cheese danish....mmmmmmmm!

Speaking of Dorie Greenspan, I am enjoying reading through the cookbook and have many pages marked with post-it tabs - things I want to make before I have to return the book to the library. I'll keep you posted. I'm baking my first thing from the cookbook on Thursday night. I've decided I'm going to make the Devil's Food White-Out Cake for Brad's birthday cake (we're celebrating on Friday - his birthday was Tuesday). I'm sure mine won't look as gorgeous as Dorie's but I'll still take photos. And bore you to death with them.

Oh, and Elizabeth, Katherine and I are going to make our own marshmallows. E's face lit up when I mentioned that tonight while we were buying some groceries. My kids love marshmallows and I've often wanted to make them.

And therein lies the difference between you and me... You look at a bag of marshmallows and think, "I want to make those myself." I look at a bag of marshmallows and think, "I'd much rather pay 99 cents than try to make them myself." Ha ha! I look forward to seeing your creations, though. If you find a good cookie or muffin recipe that I can use for this year's gift mix, I'm still looking for a recipe to use.

Lucky lucky Brad! That cake looks amazing.

Have fun cooking up a storm and experimenting! It really is fulfilling (and filling) when you make something new and everyone enjoys it. :)
