Christmas Card Photo Reject #3 and other stuff

That Annie...she just makes me laugh. The big girls were cooperating but Banannie wasn't having any of it. Still, so stinking cute. And no, we're not having a charismatic moment there. I love it for *me* but friends who rarely see your kids want to see their faces, and full on is best if you ask me. My sister and I have had this conversation - when she got a picture of some friends' kids looking out at the ocean. A great 'mom' shot, an awesome scrapbook page photo, but not a good idea for your family Christmas card if you ask me. And yes, by reading my blog you DID ask me, as a matter of fact. ;)

I've got to get on the stick with birthday party planning. I'm totally dragging my feet. I imagine I'll be at Party City on the afternoon of Annie's party trying to buy all the paper goods because I'm so not in the party mood. My SIL's mom is going to make the cake. Yippee. Susan makes great cakes. We're going with the Pink & Black polka dot theme - and Annie is wearing a sweater with pink & black polka dots on it.

Elizabeth wants another Princess party. Since most of the people who will be invited to her Princess party will be at Annie's party, I think we're going to do scrolls and hand deliver them. She'll be all over that. She wanted to do something like what I did last year; but since my family has bailed on me in doing Family Craft Days, I haven't had an opportunity to get anything like them done. The entire invitation was handmade, got the idea from DIY Network. The invites were printed on white parchment looking card stock, I printed seals with little crowns on them to be the seals, the "flaps" were purple. We mailed them like that, I'm not sure why DIY shows that lined envelope as part of the same project.

The Jermain Taylor fight should be on in just a few minutes...I'm ready. The sooner it's over, the sooner my husband gets home. We've had a busy day today. We have a busy day tomorrow.

Christmas Card Photo Reject #2 and Other Stuff

I thought the girls in their navy would look really cool in the red leather chair in Mom's bedroom (oh, I covet that chair...lipstick red leather...it is HOT!) But noooooo. No one cooperates here either (just like they didn't on her bed) What you see behind them is a throw Mom has across the back of the chair. Twenty photos. Not one was card-worthy. Not one was even "bad card worthy" which is, in and of itself, pretty sad!

On a WOOOOOOO PIG SOOOOIE note: Darren McFadden, sophomore running back for the University of Arkansas won the Doak Walker Award, which is given to the best running back in the country. Whoo-hooo! Heisman next year, baby!!!!

As I type this, I should be doing Christmas cards, there is a fire in the fireplace, and I'm listening to Kathy Mattea's Christmas album, Good News. I love this album. My favorite song on the album is "Christ Child's Lullabye" - not only is it perfect for Mattea's contra-alto voice (woo-hoo, another really low alto!), the melody beautiful - but I love the words as well. It's a setting of the traditional Scottish "Hebrides Lullaby" done with guitar, percussion and recorder - very Celtic (appropriately so) and the words are:
My love, my treasured one are you
My sweet and lovely son are you
You are my love my darling new
Unworthy I, of you
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia

Your mild and gentle eyes proclaim
The loving heart with which You came
A tender, helpless tiny babe
With boundless gifts of grace
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia

King of Kings, Most Holy One
God the Son, Eternal One
You are my God, and helpless son
High Ruler of Mankind.
Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia

"You are my God, and helpless son" - rings of "Mary, Did You Know" (another song I like if done correctly, and Mattea's version is fabulous -- nowhere near the make-me-want-to-puke Kenny Rogers/Wynonna Judd version). Are these the kinds of things Mary treasured in her heart? And do you think when she kissed her baby she realized she was kissing the face of God? Wow.

Christmas Card Photo Reject #1 and other Miscellany

And here we have Christmas Card Photo Reject #1. Elizabeth's backside is missing (that's Annie on the left and Nin on the right). If E's backside *were* there, I would be sorely tempted to use this picture! One of these days people are going to get a photo of my kids acting like they usually do and I'm going to say "Merry Christmas. Welcome to our life!"

I just realized I missed who got kicked off Top Chef tonight - both times it was on! It's not like it won't air a million times over the next week -- but still.

Annie. Oh. My. Goodness. This child is THE cutest thing since...well, since Katherine! She's started playing peek-a-boo where she'll cover her own eyes (or forehead, or cheek, or the top of her head) and when you say "Where's Annie?" she'll throw her hands away from whatever she's covering and just giggle as loud as she can. It's just too stinkin' cute! She's suddenly become the happy, giggly baby and it's definitely the sunshine I need right now.

Someone asked about me getting to video my sections - yes, because I deliver in a teaching hospital we can. Other hospitals in the city have barred video cameras (and I think even barred still cameras) in the delivery room and OR; but not where I deliver. My OB's APN said, "Yes you can tape it, just tell him you're bringing the camera. He would love for you to tape it." We have pictures of Elizabeth, Katherine and Annie still mostly inside me. And I think we have one of each of them, still at least partly inside me and each one is just screaming. When Paul was pushing on me to get Katherine out he looked at Brad and said, "Dude, you're supposed to be taking pictures now! Gina, he's too nervous about this one. He's forgetting to take pictures." He got some great shots then; he got some great ones when Annie was born, too (should have, he took 200 during the 2½ days we were in the hospital).

Just some general stuff...

Our pastor has been preaching on Romans 12:1-2 for the past five weeks, I think (Anita? Janet? Kathie? anyone remember for sure?). It has been very convicting to me about how I need to be transforming my mind. I'm sure if I would work more on spiritual things then the things that make me angry, impatient with my children, unkind to my spouse and just a general jerk all around would resolve themselves - because my focus would be where it's supposed to be. I am supposed to be a servant to my family (and I don't mean that in a "doormat" kind of way) and I often look at it as a chore. My children are a gift and a blessing. I prayed for these children - for nine long years. And I wasn't always pleasant to be around during the wait. I, above all mothers, should be grateful and joyful that they are in my life. Man, there's nothing like having kids to make one me realize how selfish one really is I really am.

I'm working hard on one aspect of my life that needs some attention and I greatly hope and pray that in the new year or shortly into 2007 it will be pretty much resolved - and it is something over which I have a great deal of control.

The past few nights, the big girls and I have been watching videos from when they were born/were babies. And poor Annie. I'm not sure there's anything on her video beyond our Level II ultrasounds! I know there's nothing recent because my sister has my video camera and has for a few months. (Brad just confirmed that my thoughts are correct - nothing for Annie - at all. Bless her punkin heart) Guess I should get it back, huh? Nin told Brad this morning, "Daddy, we need more video to watch" translation: we need another baby. Brad assured her that she has plenty of video. As I watched them I realized if I do this again, that's great. And if not, that's great too. If Annie is It, then the only thing I can really say makes me sad: I never got to see any of my children actually enter the world. I had hoped to watch my section with Annie - or at least have it taped, but we were under so much pressure to get in the OR - NOW (not from her being in distress but because of Paul's schedule) - I didn't get an opportunity to talk to Paul about it.

Clothes beckon to be hung up and folded, envelopes to be addressed for Christmas cards, and various straightening to be done. Time to serve and be grateful for the opportunity to do so. :)

Our Christmas Card and Letter

Okay, if you're on my Christmas Card list (work people! Rebecca! Jitterbug Mommies!) do not read any further :) Others, feel free to forge ahead and read our annual brag, ummm, Christmas letter (I really try not to brag). You can see all the credits for my card here.

The card says:

And when we give each other Christmas gifts in His name, let us remember that He has given us the sun and the moon and the stars, and the earth with its forests and mountains and oceans – and all that lives and moves upon them. He has given us all green things and everything that blossoms and bears fruit; and all that we quarrel about and all that we have misused – and to save us from our own foolishness, from all our sins, He came down to earth and gave us Himself.

~~Sigrid Undset

Wow! What a year 2006 has been for the Egg family – and yes, we say that every year! But we are truly amazed at the little blessings God has given us in our three girls.

Shortly after we sent last year’s Christmas greetings, we welcomed Anne Lancaster (“Annie”) into our family. She was born at 7:17a.m. on December 22 (a day earlier than originally scheduled) via c-section and she was none too happy about it! She was screaming her little head off before she was fully delivered, and we have pictures to prove it. Brad would take a few photos then turn to me and say, “She has hair!” He’d take more photos then, “She has a ton of hair!” – more photos and “She has a ton of hair! And, it’s CURLY!” Annie has fit wonderfully into our family. Her big sisters love her and we’re having a ball watching her grow. She is the size of the average six-month-old despite being almost one. She’s cruising everywhere and she loves being in the middle of whatever her big sisters are doing. She loves her Daddy. Her little face lights up as soon as she sees him. One of her favorite things to do is snuggle on his chest with her white “blankie.” I think she’d sleep there all night if he’d let her. She’s such a happy little girl and thankfully, a patient one as well – she needs to be!

Elizabeth Jane is growing like crazy, too. All our girls are. But, the arrival of Annie seems to have really made Elizabeth mature. She is such a wonderful helper, and she thrives in that role. She took dance during the summer and seemed to enjoy it, but she didn’t want to pursue it once the six week class was over. As it turned out, that was a good thing because she has been busy this fall! She started preschool in September. She attends three days a week and loves it. She usually can’t wait to get into the car to show off what she’s made that day. My refrigerator is The Egg Art Gallery – and I love it! She also started AWANA at church (our children’s program) – she is in three-year-old Cubbies. She is learning a lot about God and is memorizing Scripture. It is wonderful. She has a great team of teachers and we are so grateful for them. She can’t wait to memorize her verse each week. Elizabeth loves all things Disney Princess and as I recall, everything on her Christmas list is Disney Princess (seriously!). She’s even asked to have another Disney Princess birthday party, like the one she had when she turned three. She loves to play dress-up – she’s very much our “prissy” child. One Friday in November, Brad was off work for Veteran’s Day and he decided to go to school with Elizabeth that day. It was pajama day and all the kids wore their pajamas. So did Brad. It was priceless. He scored big points with his daughter and her teachers that day. I have pictures, of course! If you haven’t seen them, let me know. I’ll make sure you do. She was so thrilled about it. Another little girl who loves her Daddy!

Katherine Martin is, like her sisters, growing like a weed! She’s 2½ now, fully potty-trained (wahoo, only one kiddo in diapers) and boy, does she keep us on our toes!! People often ask “Are you going to try for a boy?” and our response is “We don’t need a boy, we have NinNin!” She is active and very much the extrovert. I’m not sure she’s ever met a stranger. She is our little entertainer and we are always laughing about things she does or says. Her verbal skills are amazing for her age – she talks just as much and just as clearly as Elizabeth does (no wonder Annie is so quiet!). One morning during the summer I was awakened by her, “Moooo-ooomy. Wake up! My not yay down anymore.” Oh Katherine, Mommy wants to sleep for about 15 more minutes. Want to climb in my bed and watch the Wiggles? (yes, a bribe) “No Mommy! My not yay down anymore! Get. Up. Now! My want coffee!!!!!” I opened one eye and, trying not to laugh, said, “You do realize you get decaf, right?!” Yes, Katherine loves coffee and yes, I give her decaf. We pass Starbucks and Elizabeth will say, “Mommy, there is your’s and Nin-Nin’s coffee store. I don’t like coffee.” Nin will pipe up, “My yub coffee!!” Yep, Nin loves coffee. Like her sisters, she loves her Daddy. She is the one who will throw open the door to the garage when she hears her Daddy come home from work and lead the way to welcome him home.

2006 has been a wonderful year for us. We hope it was for you as well. Hoping 2007 brings you happiness, blessing and health.
