Vacation that wasn't and other stuff

Okay, so the low-down on the vacation: we left Friday afternoon for the in-laws house. Got there at 8:00p.m. local time. The girls were a little on the wild side and finally we got everyone to bed around 10:30; but it was later than that before they went to sleep. Nin was still awake at 11:30. Annie woke up at some point and Brad brought her to me, then he put her back in the Pack 'n Play sometime later. I woke again when I heard Nin say, "Daddy, I'm dirty" and Brad say, "Oh, no! You threw up." So, he and I both got up and got her cleaned up - got their bedding cleaned up (they were "camping" on the floor in the Dora slumber bags) and got them in bed with me and Elizabeth. Thankfully we'd pushed the twin beds together. We assumed that the upset tummy was caused by a combination of coughing and "sliders" (White Castle hamburgers...yuck).

Saturday morning, Katherine slept until 9:30 and the only reason she got up then was because I had to wake her to get her fed and dressed for Disney On Ice. We went to see 100 Years of Magic. Once the girls got passed the incredibly loud soundtrack, they really enjoyed it. Katherine is the kind of kid that makes it worth springing for rink-side seats if you can afford them. She called out to each character and waved to them as if they were long lost friends and could see her up in the nosebleed section.

We came home and napped...for three hours. Totally uncool for the kids. Napping for three hours = being up all. night. long. So, we went to the park. While sitting at Riverpark, I told Brad I was suddenly reliving how I'd felt the last time we were there - in May 2005 when I was 9 weeks pregnant with Annie and morning sickness was at its peak. Later that night, as I was kneeling on the bathroom floor, I understood why. Now it was my turn to puke. And man, did it kick my butt. I honestly thought I had another common bile duct stone with the pain I was in. Horrible!

Brad decided that we would pack up and come home on Sunday. Great. Just what I want to do when I feel like crap - pile up in the car and drive for eight-and-a-half hours across the hell that is Tennessee and Eastern Arkansas. But, that's just what we did. We pulled out before 8:00a.m. ET. We hadn't even been there for 36 hours. My poor in-laws. They rarely get to see their grandkids as it is - and now because I was sick, Brad was carting them off again.

So, we've spent the week close to home and doing some fun things as a family (and some not-so-fun things...Brad got the stomach bug on Wednesday). I wish we could take more vacations and stay home. That was kind of nice!

On baby book news:
Annie is now waving and it's so stinkin' cute. She also says "ni-ni-ni" (long i sound) when one of us is putting her to bed - and she waves. And in the mornings or when she wakes from her nap she waves and says "Hi!" when we walk into her bedroom. Have I said she's so stinkin' cute lately?!

Katherine has now spent her second full day in panties and not had an accident! And, this is her third night in them. So far...so good. We'll see if the trend continues; but, could I possibly be looking at life with only one child in diapers? That hasn't happened in 2½ years!

Oh gosh no. Sorry you were all so sick. The timing just sucked!
