21st-Century Yuppie

This morning at about 8a.m., Katherine comes into my room whining, "My not lay down anymore" which being translated says "I don't want to lay down anymore" or "Mom, I'm awake - get up." She then laid her head on my bed and said, "Mommy, my need coffee! My need coffee, NOW. Get up, Mommy!" Yes, my two-year-old "needs" coffee. I laughed as I got out of bed, "Katherine, you do realize you're drinking decaf, right?" She doesn't care. She needs coffee.

About an hour later, after she's had her coffee and gotten the cobwebs out of her head, she walks over to me with a calculator pressed to her ear. She hands it to me, "Talk to Daddy." I do. Then she says, "My call Uncle Chris." She takes the calculator back and pushes buttons on it to "call" Uncle Chris. As she stands there with the calculator pressed to her head, I realize that it looks just like a really thin Blackberry and I started laughing. This is the child who loves it when I get up from the computer so she can "work" and here she is with a pretend Blackberry pressed to her head drinking her coffee.

I've birthed a 21st-century Yuppie. I'm so proud.
