The DaVinci Code

Yesterday afternoon during the girls' quiet time, I finished The DaVinci Code. It was an entertaining mystery but I found a couple of plot twists rather interesting -- didn't see the one with the Roslynn Chapel docent coming though. And wouldn't it be interesting if the Holy Grail really was hidden where the book said it was?

Let me state, for the record, I am a reformed evangelical. I believe that Jesus was the divine Son of God, born a literal virgin birth, lived a sinless life, died a literal death, and literally rose again from the dead. I also believe that He is literally coming to Earth again to set up a literal kingdom. Okay. With that "literal" stuff over... Had a long conversation with my Dad about some things in the book. Do I believe Jesus was really married to Mary Magdeline? No. Do I believe He loved her? Well, yes in the sense that He was God and would've loved her in that respect. Do I think He had a romantic love for her? I think it doesn't really matter, quite frankly. Would it bother me if He had been married to her and they'd had a child together? No. I do think that if He had a sexual relationship with her it would've had to have been within the bonds of marriage in order to not have violated The Mosaic Law - which I believe He kept perfectly. Why do so many people think that if Christ was married and had an intimate relationship with His wife that He suddenly becomes (a) no longer divine and (b) sinful? If He had been married and had not been intimate with His wife...well...according to Paul that would've been a huge opportunity for sin(I Corinthians 7) . So, the argument that some throw out there that Christ could've been married and just not had sex doesn't hold water, either. Proverbs 5 clearly teaches that a husband should enjoy his wife and be intimate with her. Is it the idea that perhaps Jesus had sex that makes people recoil in horror? If He was married, I'd fully expect that. Believe it or not, people, God created sex - blessed it, considered it a good thing, and encouraged us to enjoy it - within marriage, of course. Outside of marriage it can be and often is a total disaster; and according to the laws of God, outside of marriage it is sin. Therefore, if Jesus had sex - He had to have been married.

I'm not into the whole goddess/sacred feminine/pagan stuff and am not familiar enough with pagan worship to even comment on any of that.

this is my take on it. He came to earth as a human. So it's perfectly normal for Him to have had sexual feelings. So what if He did marry her. Or if they did have a child. Doesn't change what I believe.

Very well said. I feel pretty much the same way about the whole Mary Magdeline thing. Haven't read the book or seen the movie yet but always wondered why that part of it makes people THAT uncomfortable. Just as Melany said, it wouldn't change what I believe.
