I love my son. Really. I do.

Ah, my sweet little boy.  My sweet, two-year-old little boy.  My sweet, mischievous, two-year-old little boy.

Yeah. So you ask, "What'd he do, Gina?"

On Monday while I was in the kitchen, he pulled the step-stool over to the thermostat. He climbed up onto said step-stool and touched said thermostat.  He switched said thermostat from COOL (because you know we've had 99°F weather around these parts for a few weeks) to EMERGENCY HEAT (apparently 99°F weather isn't hot enough for him and he wants it hotter).  And then, as if that wasn't enough, he jacked the thermostat up to 90° because....apparently 99°F weather isn't hot enough for him and he wants it hotter!

"So?" you say, "You just turn it back to cool, and push the thermostat down to 78, again."  Um, yeah.  Did that.  Nothing happened.  As in, no air conditioning.  It was 99° outside and we had. no. air conditioning!!!

After spending about five hours on it, including drawing their own electrical schematic for our heat pump, the service guys finally were able to determine that my sweet boy:
  • fried the thermostat
  • blew the transformer inside the unit
  • fried every single circuit from the thermostat to the outside part of the unit
Dude!  Yeah.  Makes you proud of the damage he can cause, doesn't it?  Yeah.  Me, too!

In order to even get the thing to work, the guys had to almost completely rewire the system. And, the way they had to rewire it, it will only cool.  Come fall, we will have to have an entirely new heat pump installed or we will have no heat this winter.  Lovely!!  However, at least the guys were able to wire it to give us air conditioning and we are thankful for that.  Now, we just pray that it'll hang on until October.  And that we win the lottery.

Oh NOOOOOOO!!!!! I'm so sorry! But you know, if you're gonna do something, do it right. At least he's thorough. :)

Aw, man! We need a new heat pump soon, as well. Actually make that two heat pumps, since our upstairs/downstairs are separate units. Here's hoping for lottery wins for both of us!
