It's amazing how much difference a year makes. Last year, Elizabeth and I were struggling with her reading lessons. By the end of the school year, once we'd gotten to the point that E was reading with actual letters and not the symbols used to teach the phonics, we ditched Teach Your Child to Read and started using some of the "Dick and Jane" books I had here. Elizabeth loved Good Times with Our Friends and she devoured that book. I was so happy to see that happen, because honestly, I thought it never would.
This school year, I want to continue to encourage her love of reading. I figured the best way to do that was to use a curriculum that was built around encouraging a love of reading - Veritas Press. I have been impressed with their reading curriculum for a couple of years - even before we'd decided to homeschool. I love the idea of a classical education - it makes perfect sense to me. Anyway, this school year, Elizabeth's reading curriculum is the Veritas Press First Grade Literature List. She has already read the first two books in First Favorites, Volume 1 - Curious George and Caps for Sale. We're going to the library today (we hope) to get Corduroy and Blueberries for Sal. She read the first two books three times each. She loved reading them! I hope that continues! I really look forward to next year when we get to read The Boxcar Children. I loved those books when I was a kid and I hope Elizabeth will as well.

Oh, Corduroy was Hannah's FAVORITE book. She checked out the book and tape so many times I was almost embarrassed to check it out again. :) Glad to hear that she's loving reading.
I'm glad she's loving to read! Emily is the same way. She even likes to read to Olivia when they go to bed at night. It's so beautiful to watch.
